Fractures Around the Hip in Athletes
نویسندگان
چکیده
A wide spectrum of bony injury around the hip and pelvis may occur in athletes. These injuries vary from subtle avulsions that may require appropriate diagnosis and conservative management only to joint threatening injuries requiring emergent orthopaedic treatment. This review attempts to provide a general guide to these injuries in respect to athletes focusing on published evidence. For the purpose of this review we have divided theses fractures into four groups: 1. Acute femoral neck/acetabular fractures 2. Hip subluxation and dislocation

Recurrent hip fracture prevention with osteoporosis management
Abstract Background: Osteoporosis is a major public health threat, and hip fracture is a serious consequence of osteoporosis. Apatient with an osteoporosis-related hip fracture has an increased risk for a second hip fracture. The effect of osteoporosis management on the risk of recurrent hip fracture was evaluated in this study. Methods: 58 hip fracture patients older than 50yr and BMD < 2.5 w...
متن کاملType II Intertrochanteric Fractures: Proximal Femoral Nailing (PFN) Versus Dynamic Hip Screw(DHS)
Background: Intertrochanteric fracture is one of the most common fractures of the hip especially in the elderly with osteoporotic bones, usually due to low-energy trauma like simple falls. Dynamic Hip Screw (DHS) is still considered the gold standard for treating intertrochanteric fractures by many. Not many studies compare the DHS with Proximal femoral nail (PFN), in Type II intertrochanteri...
متن کاملInternal fixation of femoral neck stress fractures in young female athletes with a dynamic locking plate.
PURPOSE Displaced stress fractures of the femoral neck in young female athletes are a rare but a difficult injury to treat with a favourable outcome, as there is a reported high incidence of avascular necrosis. Traditionally they are internally fixed with either cannulated screws or a sliding hip screw. Our study aims to highlight the Targon Femoral Neck (FN, B-Braun, Aesculap Inc, Germany) imp...
متن کاملMid-third femoral stress fracture with hip pain.
Stress fractures are relatively common in runners, accounting for 10% to 15% of total running injuries. Bennell et al observed 111 track and field athletes for 12 months and noted a 21% incidence of stress fractures. Matheson et al reported that 7% of all stress injuries to bone involved the femur. One review and one prospective analysis of stress fractures in athletes have shown a 3.5% inciden...
متن کاملRelationship between Hip and Knee Strength and Knee Valgus Angle during Drop Jump in Elite Female Athletes
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between hip and knee strength with knee valgus angle during drop jump in elite female athletes. Methods: Forty female athletes (mean ± SD age, 21.5 ± 1.99 years height, 169.08 ± 8.25 cm body mass, 61.05 ± 10.06 kg) participated in this study. Isometric hip and knee muscles strength were evaluated using standard clinical...
